  5. Stay and Play – Exploring with your taste buds on Tamborine Mountain

Where to start . . .

In this blog I am going to share some of the best kept secrets of eating out and drinking on Tamborine Mountain. There are lots of great food and wine options¬† so hopefully the information below is a useful starting point. Firstly, let’s start with breakfast.

For breakfast there are many fabulous cafes. Within walking distance some suggestions include The Treehouse, The Wild Plum Kitchen, and Cafe Bravo all on Gallery Walk. If you are happy to jump in the car Mountain Brew and Picnic Real Food Bar, both in North Tamborine, are great options, as well as the Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation.

Lunch and Dinner

PippinTook2 (0402 900 110) has food with a French European influence. It is walking distance from Eaglemount on Tamborine and so is Masala Shanti (0423 133 500) serving Indian food (closed Monday and Tuesday).

El Burro Cantina (07)5545 4003 serves great Mexican food (closed Monday’s). The menu at El Burro Cantina is totally gluten free. If you love ribs and wings Hickory (0402 647054) is fabulous. Hickory is only a little restaurant so does two evening sittings – one at 5.30pm one at 7pm.

The Monkey Tree serves breakfast lunch and dinner (no dinner Sundays) with a “locals special menu” on Thursday nights. This is a menu of about 7-8 different choices for $15 as well as $5 local wine, beer or cider. (07) 5545 1941

The pizza’s from Tamborine Mountain Pizzas (07) 5545 3888 are really good for takeaway. You can eat in but the space is tiny. Tamborine Mountain Pasta is fabulous (07) 5545 3795 and has just increased their dining in space. Both are open 7 days.

Gaslight Italian (07) 5545 4108 is a short walk from Eaglemount and serve great pizza and pasta. Villa Alessandra Italian Restaurant is only a short walk away (0487 770 981). Three Little Pigs Bar and Bistro (07 5545 4484) is also another great option however it is not open on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The Fox and Hound English Pub at Wongawallen (about a ten minute drive down the mountain) is a fun experience and open 7 days (07) 5665 7582. For lunch Fortitude Brewing (300m walk) is great with local brews and pizzas as well as Witches Chase Cheeses for a great selection for a cheese board. (07) 5545 4273

The Aerie is a boutique wine, whisky and gin bar located on Gallery Walk, which is the main tourist strip of Tamborine Mountain. It is open from 3pm until late Thursday to Sunday.

If you are thinking of doing wine tasting, a tour is a great idea. There are quite a few tour companies doing winery tours on the mountain. You could try Pineapple Tours (0466 331 232) if you are looking for a wine tour or Cork and Fork Tours (0415 454 313). Both will collect you from our address.

If you fancy a self tour I again suggest booking ahead. Witches Falls Winery (07 5545 2609), Hamptons Estate Wines (07 5545 3144), Heritage Estate Wines (07 4685 2197), Tamborine Mountain Distillery (07 5545 3452, Tamborine Mountain Wines (07 5545 3066), Fortitude Brewing Company (07 5545 4273). There are other wineries you can find by doing a quick Google search.

Other than food and wine there are great walks on our door step. These include Palm Grove and Curtis Falls.
